Microsoft has confirmed that KB5043145 for Windows 11 is causing PC crashes. All this is similar to the situation with the July 2024 security updates.
An optional pre – release update KB5043145 was released last week. It contained bug fixes and some changes. In particular, the Start menu was returned to the option to log out, which was previously hidden under the additional menu to promote OneDrive and Microsoft 365.
KB5043145 causes PC crashes
Some users on the Reddit topic thread reported that their computers stopped booting after installing the update. Many of the affected computers are ASUS laptops, but the problem also affected other PCs.
Microsoft has already acknowledged the problem. The documentation on the Windows Release Status portal indicates that some computers running Windows 11 Build 22621.4249 (KB5043145) are experiencing multiple reboots and a blue or green screen. In addition, some PCs may automatically run the automatic recovery tool after repeated reboot attempts to diagnose and fix the problem. In some cases, devices may boot into BitLocker recovery mode. The issue affects Windows 11, version 23H2 and Windows 11, version 22H2.
Microsoft has released another problematic update for the Windows 11 operating system under the number KB5043145. This time, the update is not related to security, and therefore has not yet been installed on a significant number of PCs. However, the company has already received numerous reports that the update causes constant PC reboots, the appearance of” screens of death”, as well as freezing the operating system. According to Microsoft, the company is currently trying to gather more information about emerging issues.
Microsoft is investigating and will release an update to fix the issues.

According to reports, KB5043145 affects USB ports
Some users also reported that after installing KB5043145, the USB ports and connected peripherals, such as the keyboard and mouse, stopped working. One of the users reported that the problem disappeared after deleting the update. In addition, some users reported that WSL2 (the Windows subsystem for Linux) stopped working.
The KB5043145 update is optional — it is only available to users who have the Get the latest updates option enabled as soon as they are available in Settings > Windows Update. We recommend not enabling this option.
Microsoft is expected to release the Windows 11 feature update, version 24H2, in October, and it will be available to users who have enabled the option to receive updates as available. Many users may want to install new features as soon as possible, but this can lead to bugs and crashes that make your computer unusable.
We also remind you that Intel has released a microcode update 0x12B to address the stability problems of processors of the 13th and 14th generations. MSI and ASRock have already released a 0x12B microcode BIOS update for their Z790 and B760 series motherboards.
As computer enthusiasts note, the occurrence of failures in Windows 11 after installing fresh updates has already become a kind of bad tradition. Thematic forums regularly recommend suspending the installation of updates for the maximum period of time or disabling it altogether. So, less than a month ago, Microsoft released another problematic update KB5041872 – after installing it, the OS started to hang. Users also complained about high CPU usage, which reached 100% — and this is in the absence of any resource-intensive programs or games running.
