Sony has restored the PlayStation Network (PSN) after a massive outage that left players unable to play online for several hours. Users of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 began to report that they can connect to the service again on Tuesday, October 1. The problem started on Monday evening and lasted about eight hours, affecting almost all PlayStation devices-PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS5, as well as the web version. The PSN status page briefly showed a message that “all services are working”, but later there were problems again in the game streaming section.
Message from Sony and current situation
At the moment, Sony says: “You may have difficulty launching games, apps, or network functions. We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience. ” Although most of the problems have been resolved, some users still report difficulties with the connection and communication functions.
During the crash, players were unable to log in to their accounts, run multiplayer games, or even some single-player projects that required a network connection. Offline games continued to work smoothly.
PS5 error and user response
On some PlayStation 5 devices, an error with the code “PS5 Error Code WS-116522-7″appeared when trying to start the game. The corresponding Sony support page reports that “the system software update failed”. Sony has barely commented on the reasons for the glitch on its international social media platforms, with the only statement coming via the Japanese support page on social network X (formerly Twitter).
The issue didn’t seem to be related to another bug that prevented game covers from being displayed on the PS5 home screen-this bug has already been fixed.

The large-scale failure caused a wave of discontent among users, many of whom criticized Sony for its lack of information and rapid response. Despite the restoration of the network, complaints about connection and game problems continue to appear on social networks.
