Despite the inconveniences associated with the removal of applications of a number of leading Russian banks from the App Store, the shutdown of Apple Pay in the Russian Federation, the inability to pay for an application or game with a Russian bank card, the number of iPhone users in Russia did not decrease much. So, according to MTS statistics, in terms of revenue in the first half of 2024, the entire Russian top 5 mobile market was occupied by Apple devices. The leader was the iPhone 15 Pro Max model, followed by the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15, iPhone 13, iPhone 14. The fact that the first three places were taken by the 2023 models of the year suggests that interest in Apple’s new products still persists.
What will Apple offer in September, namely in mid-September, when most likely there will be a presentation where the iPhone 16-series will be presented ?
Design and construction
It is believed that the American company adheres to a three-year cycle in the design and construction of the iPhone. However, even within its framework, every year changes are made to the design of iPhones that affect the so-called “user experience”.
After the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max receive a new Action Button in 2023, there is a high probability that the same button will appear in the entire new line: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Recall that the Action Button is responsible for running quick commands. It can be configured to turn on and off the sound, select the shooting mode, turn on and off the flashlight, activate the magnifier, start or stop recording voice notes, and various universal access functions.
But that’s not all. Perhaps in the 16 series there will also be a physical camera shutter button. According to rumors, it will be responsible for managing shooting and have a two-stage design, as in digital cameras. Easy tap to focus, strong tap to shoot. The button will be located at the bottom of the right side.
This year, we may also see a larger size of the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models. The iPhone 16 Pro will apparently get a 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will get a 6.9-inch display.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman estimates that the iPhone 16 Pro models will grow by “a couple of tenths of an inch diagonally,” making them the largest iPhones to date. Analyst Jeff Pu also confirmed this, predicting a 0.2-inch increase in screen size .
A leak of the dimensions of the entire iPhone 16 series also confirms a possible increase in screen size. Well-known insiders Ice Universe and Instant Digital released information regarding the size of the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. According to their data, the dimensions of the new devices will be as follows: 8.25 x 149.6 x 71.45 mm for the iPhone 16 Pro and 8.26 x 163 x 77.58 mm for the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

However, a recent post by TF International Securities analyst and Apple’s most respected insider, Ming-Chi Kuo, suggests that the iPhone 16 will only come in black, green, pink and white.
Hardware platform
If Apple continues to adhere to the practice of recent years, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will inherit the 2023 A17 Pro chip, which is now available in the iPhone 15 Pro models, but the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will receive more powerful A18s. But more promising rumors suggest that the company will abandon the practice that fans of the brand obviously did not like, and all iPhone 16 models will run on new 3-nanometer A18 chips.
Also, rumors suggest that the Pro models will have support for the Wi-Fi 7 standard.
The storage capacity will most likely start at 128 GB for the base iPhone 16, Plus, and Pro models, and 256 GB for the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Apple’s own modem doesn’t appear to be ready yet, as Qualcomm will ship 5G modems for iPhones until 2026. Insider Jeff Pu claims that the new iPhones will receive a Snapdragon X75 modem with the new “5G advanced” standard, with which new smartphones can in theory reach speeds of 7.5 Gbps.
Cameras
Noticeable changes are expected for the main cameras. Presumably, even the basic version will get the main sensor at 48 Mp. The sensor in the Pro models may become larger to give the more expensive iPhones some advantage over the lower models.
According to one source, the 48-megapixel main camera may get a noticeable upgrade, its matrix will have a size of 1/1. 14 inches (0.87 inches) instead of the current 1/1. 28 inches. Also, the Pro models will get a new ultra-wide-angle camera with a 48-megapixel sensor, which will improve the quality of images in low-light conditions.
Meanwhile, the Phone 16 and iPhone 16 Max may return from the diagonal to vertical arrangement of the camera modules, which was last on the iPhone 12. This can be done to support spatial video recording for Vision Pro and other headsets.

And according to Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will get the same periscope telephoto camera as its predecessor, the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This will become possible if the rumors come true that the iPhone 16 Pro will be larger than the iPhone 15 Pro and the periscope camera will fit in it.
Software Platform
It’s safe to say that the 2024 iPhone models will run iOS 18. After Apple unveiled its new software at WWDC in June, we know a little more about what these features will be, including a redesigned Photos app, the ability to more fully customize the iPhone home screen, and various improvements to Maps, Notes, and other apps. Apple Intelligence – Apple’s artificial intelligence that will appear in all of its products-will also be a big part of the software update, but only for a limited number of phones. Apple is limiting Apple Intelligence to devices with the A17 chip or later; presumably, this will include all four iPhone 16 models. However, Apple Intelligence will probably not work in Russia in 2024.
Battery and charging
Leaks indicate that the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will get a more capacious battery. As for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, their batteries will increase to 3,577 mAh and 4,747 mAh, respectively (for the iPhone 15 Pro, this figure is 3,274 mAh, and for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, 4422 mAh). According to former Meizu Vice President Lee Nan, referring to his sources, the new iPhone 16 will receive more powerful wired charging – up to 40 watts.
