What will the Samsung Galaxy S25 be like? We’ll find out about its release date, price, and specifications.

The phone will have a large screen, a powerful chip, a super camera, and features based on Gemini Nano 2.

Samsung’s flagship smartphones have traditionally set high standards for powerful Android mobile devices, and the upcoming Galaxy S25 will be no exception. Although there are still months until the release of the device, information about the new model has already surfaced online. The new device is expected to feature a revised design, more powerful hardware, improved camera capabilities, as well as a wider range of artificial intelligence-powered features. RBC Life has gathered the most significant details that are currently known about the Galaxy S25.

Release date of Samsung Galaxy S25

Koreans traditionally hold premieres for their flagship smartphones in the beginning of the year, usually in January or February. The current Galaxy S24 series, for example, was announced on January 17th, 2023, at the Galaxy Unpacked event, with global sales starting on January 31st. Based on this, it’s likely that the debut of the next Galaxy S smartphone will take place around the same time next year. However, there’s also a possibility that Samsung might choose to showcase the new device earlier, at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas in January 2025.

Samsung Galaxy S25 design and Display

From year to year, Samsung has used a conservative, minimalistic design for its flagship line. As a result, the current Galaxy S24 doesn’t look much different from the Galaxy S25, for example. However, some industry insiders claim that Samsung’s leadership has tasked its developers with “rethinking the image of the Galaxy brand in order to give it a fresh look.”

In the basic version of the new model, a key change will be the size of the display. The diagonal will grow from 6.2 to 6.36 inches, making the Samsung Galaxy S25 similar in size to the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro. This will also mean that the iPhone 16’s screen will receive a slight increase in size.

The Galaxy S25 Plus and Ultra models will retain AMOLED displays with a diagonal size of 6.7 and 6.8 inches, respectively, and QHD+ resolution. However, it is possible that the “older” Samsung models will still have a slightly larger size due to the use of a larger battery and new main camera module. All screens in the S25 series will have an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and peak brightness of 2,600 nits.

No drastic changes in design are expected. The Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus will retain the aluminum body frame, while the titanium alloy frame will continue to be exclusive to the top-of-the-line Galaxy S25 Ultra model. All models in the line will now feature Gorilla Glass Armor for enhanced protection. Additionally, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, like its current flagship predecessor, will continue to include a built-in S Pen and will maintain its IP68 rating for moisture and dust resistance.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Specifications

In the current S24 lineup, Samsung, depending on the market, is using both “home” Exynos 2400 chipsets and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processors from Qualcomm. Recently, there have been rumors that for the S25 model, the Koreans will fully switch to their own Exynos 2500 system, which will be manufactured using a 3 nanometer process. According to reports, in terms of several characteristics, it will exceed the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen4 chip, which will maintain the 4 nanometer architecture. At the same time, both chipsets can be used depending on the sales region.

In addition, there are rumors that Qualcomm may also switch their flagship processors to a 3 nanometer manufacturing process. This would increase the clock speed of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip to 4 GHz, compared to 3.3 GHz for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. With this increase in computing power, the new chip would also be more energy efficient, so users may not need to use larger batteries.

The current Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra models are equipped with batteries of 4000mAh, 4900mAh, and 5000mAh respectively. The original version uses a 25W charging system, while the other two versions support a faster 45W charging. It is expected that the older models will receive improved charging capabilities, as many Chinese competitors already use faster systems that can fully charge their devices in half an hour or less.

As for the built-in memory and RAM, there are no significant changes expected. The base model of the Samsung Galaxy S25 will have 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB of internal storage. The Galaxy S24+ will be available with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB/512 GB storage. Finally, the top-of-the-line Galaxy S25 Ultra will come in three main variants: 12 GB, 256 GB; 12 GB, 512 GB; and 1 TB, 12 GB.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Cameras

The current flagship Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra features a 200-megapixel primary camera, an ultra-wide-angle 12-megapixel lens, and two telephoto lenses: a 10-megapixel three-times sensor and a 50-megapixel five-times zoom camera with the ability for hybrid ten-times magnification. This replaces the previous 10-megapixel ten-times zoom lens, but the new camera is able to produce equally impressive images with its higher resolution and advanced AI algorithms.

There is currently no exact information available about the optics of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, but based on rumors, the device is expected to feature an upgraded 200-megapixel main camera with a larger sensor, and a 12-megapixel ultrawide-angle lens is likely to be replaced by a 50-megapixel module. Additionally, it is speculated that a new camera module with variable aperture might be introduced, which could significantly enhance the shooting capabilities of the device. Similar technologies are already being used in new Chinese flagship phones such as the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Huawei Pura 70 Ultra, and Honor Magic 6 Pro.

AI features based on Google’s Gemini Nano 2

During the premiere of Samsung Galaxy S24 in January 2024, Koreans announced the start of close cooperation with Google on artificial intelligence-powered tools. In particular, Circle Search, an advanced internet search feature, has been introduced, allowing users to receive information by simply circling objects of interest on the screen with a finger or stylus. AI can also translate video calls and phone conversations in real time, shorten, organize, and summarize individual notes into text with organized data. Additionally, the neural network can change the style of messages based on the situation and status of the person, as well as choose emojis and hashtags for better promotion of social media posts.

Finally, an advanced photo editor is provided that allows users to erase or move objects in pictures, filling in the background with voids. And thanks to the Instant Slow-Motion function, users can run videos in slow motion to capture the most memorable frames.

It is already known that the Samsung Galaxy S25 will use the second-generation Gemini Nano artificial intelligence model from Google. While there are no details available at this time, it can be expected that the improvements will impact the online translator, voice command recognition, and photo and video editing using neural network tools.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Prices

There are approximately nine months left until the release of the Samsung Galaxy S25, so it is too early to speculate about the cost. Given that the Korean company did not change the price of the S24 and S24+ models compared to the previous year’s models, it is likely that there will not be significant changes to the price list for the S25. However, the price for the older model, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, increased by $100 following the generation change. It is unlikely that Samsung will increase the price of their flagship device for a second consecutive year. Estimated prices for the Galaxy S25 series are expected to be:

  • Samsung Galaxy S25 — from $799;
  • Samsung Galaxy S25+ — from $999;
  • Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra — from $1,299.

When the Samsung Galaxy S24 first appeared in Russia in mid-February, it cost 90,000 rubles, the Galaxy S24+ cost 112,000, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra cost 147,000. Now, prices have dropped significantly, with smartphones available for 25,000 to 45,000 rubles less than their original price. It’s still difficult to give an approximate price for the upcoming Galaxy S25 devices, as it will depend on factors such as the ruble exchange rate.

Samsung Galaxy S25 vs Samsung Galaxy S24

To summarize, the upcoming smartphones from the Samsung Galaxy S25 series will feature a slightly modified design, with larger displays and more powerful hardware. They will also have improved battery life and support for faster charging systems.

Continued close cooperation with Google will enable Koreans to incorporate advanced artificial intelligence-powered features for more convenient user interface, internet search, real-time translation, and photo and video processing. Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to receive an improved main camera, which will contribute to its continued inclusion in lists of the world’s best camera phones.
